Acute Rheumatic Fever Diagnosis Collaborative Network (ARC)

Over 40 million people currently live with rheumatic heart disease (RHD).

RHD begins with superficial strep A infections that can lead to the inflammation condition known as acute rheumatic fever (ARF). ARF damages the heart valves and leads to the chronic heart disease RHD.

One major barrier to RHD prevention globally is that there is no diagnostic test for ARF.

ARC brings together a global team of experts to identify biomarkers that could serve as the foundation of an ARF diagnostic test.

The goals of ARC are to:

Modernize the diagnosis of ARF

Establish a robust platform for future ARF research

Improve the global understanding of ARF pathogenesis
